The course was taught by Swami Nikhilanandji, a pracharak of JKP Barsana Dham and a disciple of Jagadguru Shree Kripaluji Maharaj (www.jkp.org/jagadguru_kripaluji/index.html). It was specifically planned to happen during the mid-winter school recess so that youth could take full advantage of the hour-and-a-half-long program each evening. Two separate rooms were used, so that youth and adults could receive separate instruction according to their personal needs. Using this format, one chapter of the Gita was covered each night.

Perhaps the most impressive thing about the program was the enthusiasm of the kids to come each day. One parent remarked, "When I would return home from work, my three kids were already dressed and anxious to leave. They were the ones making sure that we got here on time." Jagadguru Shree Kripaluji Maharaj - Narad Bhakti SutraJagadguru Shree Kripaluji Maharaj teaches that bhakti is eternal. It is the eternally existing path to attain God. God is one, so the path of His attainment is also one, and thus, the same path of bhakti ensures the attainment of any of the forms of God.

The path of bhakti is prevalent in every brahmand of this entire universe and it is for all the souls of this universe. It remains the same in all the four yugas (satyug, treta, dwapar and kaliyug) and, as it is directly related to soul and God, it is above caste, creed, sect and nationality. It can be adopted by any person of any nation of this world, because it is gifted by the supreme God Himself for the benefit of the humankind; and again, there are no physical requirements in doing bhakti.

There are no meditation postures to adopt, no concentration techniques to follow and no rituals to observe. So it can be done by anyone, young, old or sick, and at any time in twenty-four hours, because bhakti is the pure love of your heart that longs to meet the Divine beloved of your soul in this very lifetime. The philosophy of bhakti is described in Narad Bhakti Darshan and explained by Jagadguru Shree Kripaluji Maharaj. (Picture: Sage Narad Ji who revealed the Narad Bhakti Darshan).

This year, Hindus of Greater Houston celebrated Makar Shankranti day most joyously. Swami Nikhilanand Ji, a disciple of Jagadguru Shree Kripaluji Maharaj gave a speech on "the meaning of Makar Shankranti".

Over 4,000 men, women and children joined in festivities with kite-flying, yogic exercises - Surya Namaskar yagna - and music in Houston. It was a picnic with a difference where people from various parts of greater Houston area gathered to mark the festival that also signifies the Sun's northward journey - Uttarayana.

The festival organized by Vishwa Hindu Parishad of America, Gujarati Samaj of Greater Houston and Hindus of Greater Houston has become a favorite fun day for the last two decades. This year because of the wet outfield, games like cricket and kabaddi were canceled but that did not diminish the enthusiasm of the gathering. The Day extended for almost 8 hours with the peak around 2 pm when music, food and kite flying were the big attraction. Gujarati Samaj served Khichari and butter milk free, like every year, said Prakash Shah, the President of Gujarati Samaj.

From the morning hours till well past noon hundreds of people from ages 6 to 60 participated in the Yogic exercise, Surya Namaskar (Sun Salutation) that helps both the body and the mind. Lakshminarayan, one of the organizers, said Surya Namaskar has become very popular and every day some 10,000 people do it in parks, playgrounds and at their homes. The goal is to reach 100,000 people this year.

Makar Shankranti 2010

Makar Sankranti is the first Hindu festival of the solar calendar and is celebrated with great devotion, zeal and fervor on 14 January each year. It falls on the day when the sun enters the zodiac sign of Makar (Capricorn) and when day and night are of equal duration. Offerings of rice and milk are made to Surya Dev, God Sun.

Makar Sankranti is a day of great significance and marks the beginning of auspicious times. The beginning of the period, when the sun travels northwards, is considered highly favorable for auspicious activities. It is celebrated as Pongal in the South, but in the North it is observed as Makar Sankranti. On this day, thousands of devotees take a holy dip in the Ganges and other holy streams. At Ganga Sagar, where the river Ganga enters the sea, a grand fair and festival is held on this day. Devotees in large numbers reach the Sagar Island in boats, and bathe there at a point where Ganga meets the sea. There, the pilgrims also visit the Ashram of sage Kapil, who according to our Puranas had burnt to ashes the sixty thousand sons of the King Sagar of Ayodhya. These sixty thousand dead princes were subsequently revived and made to ascend to heaven by the sacred waters of Divine Ganga, as She flowed over their ashes.

Makar Sankranti is also known as 'Jagadguru Divas' and is extremely special and important to the followers of Shree Kripaluji Maharaj as on this day, in 1957, our beloved spiritual master, at only 35 years old, was conferred in Varsanasi with the highest title 'Jagadguru' by the Kashi Vidvat Parishat, an apex body of all the supreme scholars and masters of India of the time.

Everyone is invited and encouraged to attend this enlightening event at the Hindu Worship Society Temple in Houston, and to listen to Swami Nikhilanand's speech on this auspicious occasion, or to forward this message to friends and family in Houston Texas and surrounding areas.

Bhagvad-gita is also known as Gitopanishad. It is the essence of Vedic knowledge and one of the most important Upnishads available in kaliyug. Although there are many commentaries in various languages on the Bhagvad-gita but there remains a quest to always learn more.

During the spring, summer and winter breaks this year, devotees of Jagadguru Shree Kripaluji Maharaj at the JKP Dallas Center organized three 7-day long camps for children and their parents in Irving, Plano and Dallas. All the camps had overwhelming response from adults and kids.

These camps were presented by Swami Nikhilanand, a pracharak of Jagadguru Shree Kripaluji Maharaj who lives at JKP Barsana Dham, founded by Shree Swami Prakashanand Saraswati, and main focus of the camps were to impart to the Hindu kids growing in North America salient information about Hindu religion and culture aimed at developing the spiritual side of their personality which is often ignored in the hustle bustle of today's environment. Each day Swami Nikhilanand taught a unique topic about Hinduism in concurrent sessions to adults and children. These camps provided a classroom format learning experience with lots of GAMES, role-plays, score-cards and tons of cool prizes to win, absolutely FREE.

Last week, Swami Nikhilanand, a pracharak of Jagadguru Shree Kripaluji Maharaj, presented yet another such camp based on the teachings of the Gita in Flower Mound from Dec 13th to Dec 19th.

The topics for the camp were:
Dec 13: Dharm aur Karm yog - Introduction to Gita
Dec 14: Atm bodh - Understanding the true self.
Dec 15: Paap ka beej - Why do we do wrong things?
Dec 16: Avtar Rahasya - Secret of Krishn's descension
Dec 17: Sadguru - How to recognize a true Saint?
Dec 18: Roop Dhyan - Meditation and control of the mind.
Dec 19: Kamna aur Prem - What to ask for from God?

Swami Nikhilanand, a pracharak of Jagadguru Shree Kripaluji Maharaj will speak on the devotional philosophy of What to ask from God.

What to ask from God - speech by pracharak of Shree Kripaluji MaharajOnce in our history, in the time of Lord Krishn during Mahabharat, the mother of Arjun, Kunti, asked for a very strange boon from Krishn. Krishn had told Kunti that He could give her anything she desired. Kunti said "Vipadah santunah shashwad... Bavato darshanam..." "O Lord Krishn, if you want to give me anything, give me lack of worldly pleasures at every step of my life, because the absense of worldly things inspires the human heart to proceed towards You; otherwise, the heart tends to recede from You because of its increasing attachments."

Krishn said "Kunti! Generally people desire for worldly luxuries, yog-powers or liberation. Why do you ask for the pains of the world?" Kunti replied, "My Lord! Do not try to trick me. You see, if I receive worldly luxuries, my pride will grow and I might forget You, so how could I come close to You? But if I am facing difficulties in my life, I will know that this world is full of miseries, disappointments, and negativities. Then naturally I will remember You, and when I remember You, I will find You"...
